Increased Court fees – Civil and Tribunal Proceedings

In March 2016, a number of court and tribunal fee increases came into effect, with several affecting civil claims, including:

  • Applications made by consent or without notice – increase from £50.00 to £100.00
  • Applications on notice – increase from £155.00 to £255.00
  • Applications to set aside a County Court judgment – increase from £155.00 to £255.00

Some further changes came into effect as of 25 July 2016 which changed the fees in respect of commencing detailed assessment proceedings, to which the following fees now apply:

Where costs claims are:

Up to £15,000.00                                                    £369.00

£15,000.01 – £50,000.00                                      £743.00

£50,000.01 – £100.00.00                                     £1,106.00

£100,000.01 – £150,000.00                                 £1,480.00

£150,000.01 – £200,000.00                                 £1,848.00

£200.000.01 – £300,000.00                                £2,772.00

£300.000.01 – £500,000.00                                £4,620.00

More than £500,000.00                                       £6,160.00

In addition, the following increases apply in respect of detailed assessment proceedings:

  • Fee for appealing a decision made in detailed assessment proceedings – increase from £210.00 to £231.00
  • Request to issue a Default Costs Certificate – increase from £60.00 to £66.00
  • Application to set aside a Default Costs Certificate – increase from £110.00 to £121.00
